Growing a consulting business is hard. The industry is overcrowded and competitive, and you stand now at a crossroads in your business... even if you don't realise it yet. Or maybe you do and you're simply choosing to bury your head in the sand and hope it fixes itself.

The consulting and coaching industries are overcrowded. Everyone these days are flogging life and business improvement services, because they did a £20 coaching course during lockdown 2020 and think they 'understand' what hardship is and want to teach other people and businesses how to 'be the best version of themselves'.

Most of them want to 'help' so they pride themselves on giving free sessions, being competitively priced and available to work with anyone and everyone. They cast their marketing nets as wide as possible and hope to attract clients.

And it leaves you in a tricky situation: you're compelled to follow their lead. You know you have more knowledge and know-how than most of these 'coaches' online, so while you're lowering your prices and broadening your net to help everyone, you begin to plaster your experience, authenticity and passion all over the internet.

Your website and social media presence is fuelled by you telling everyone how much experience you have, how many years you've been in business, what qualifications you have and how different you are.

Yet every other executive coach and consultant is shouting the same thing. It's a race to the bottom on price and who's willing to work the hardest for the least amount of money... and a competition on who's got the most qualifications and experience, thus the better coach. But that's not how it works.

Your clients and prospects don’t care. They don’t care how long you’ve been in business, your qualifications, your life story or how ‘different’ your  business is… hell, they don’t even give a crap about your new website, branding or logos.

You’ve simply been caught up in the excitement of it all, the dopamine rush of a shiny-new-object, egged on by your echo-chamber and social media following telling you that’s what you need to be doing, ‘cause that’s what everyone else is doing. But all you’ve done is spend time and money you probably can’t afford and could have spent better, on superficial and unnecessary stuff you likely don’t need and never should have made a priority.

And what you don’t have is the one thing you do need more than anything: paying clients.

But most business owners are too caught up in the enthusiasm of your echo-chamber telling you the more authentic, open and honest you are about your life, experiences and achievements to focus on what’s really important: getting clients.

There’s another reason to act now rather than leaving it until later, too: who knows what state the economy will be in by then, let alone where you’ll be with your business... if you'll still be in business.

If you want any semblance of financial or other security, you will never, ever find a better investment than powerful, effective, and predictable marketing, sales, and business systems.
